Friday Favorites: Van Ness Cupcake in Amsterdam

Van Ness Cupcake Title

When you love something that you know will make other people happy, you just want to share it with the world! This week we want to tell you about Van Ness Cupcake in Amsterdam. First of all, I love cupcakes. I could eat them every single day, but somehow I don’t give into that temptation. But I really wish I could. You know how Georgetown Cupcake got so much attention for being amazing? Well, they were good, but I had other favorites in the Georgetown, Washington, D.C. area. However famous they got, Van Ness should be just as famous (for better cupcakes!).

There is something to be said for specializing in one thing. If cupcakes are the only product that you sell, they better be good. And Vanessa, owner of Van Ness Cupcake, does them very well! There’s a reason they have 5 stars on Yelp. The cupcakes are a normal size (not mini and not jumbo), they have the perfect amount of frosting, and it’s the good kind of frosting! How many times has a good cake been ruined by bad frosting? Too many.

Flavors! Lots of flavors, but we’ll start with the basic everyday-everyone loves flavors. You have your chocolate and vanilla with chocolate and vanilla frosting in various combinations, and of course red velvet with cream cheese frosting. Then you have the flavors of the month like salted caramel, blueberry lemon, and strawberry lime. Each month I eagerly await the new flavors and then go within the week to try them. And then before the month runs out, I get my favorites one more time. I love cupcakes. We know this. So, this should not be a surprise! My only problem is that I haven’t figured out how to get them on my bike yet. I need a special cupcake box holder and a special wine holder…but that’s a whole other blog post.

You’ll find Van Ness Cupcake at Spuistraat 232 in Amsterdam. It’s not far from Dam Square, so take a little walk down Spuistraat and enjoy all the street-art that you will encounter. Then look for the purple sign above the door and pop in to say hi and enjoy your cupcake! I just love that purple sign…it beckons me as I walk or ride down Spuistraat. Be aware that you’ll need a card to purchase your cupcake. Credit or debit is fine, just no cash. You will be welcomed with a smile, and can see each of the flavors she has available on the counter. It’s easy, it’s clear, and it’s a friendly experience. Then you can do what I do, stand outside the door and wolf down that cupcake while enticing passersby to go in and pick their own cupcake. Check in on the Yelp app for a check-in offer and watch the Van Ness Cupcake Facebook page for surprise offers! You are welcome!
