Amsterdam

Amsterdam Amstel

When to Visit

April, May, September, October

With more than 300 festivals hosted in Amsterdam every year, you’ll never be bored in The Netherlands’ capital city. From June through August, you can expect mostly sunny skies and millions of tourists. To enjoy a slightly less crowded city, I recommend visiting in spring for tulips or fall for foliage. If you’re in the city on April 27, be sure to pack your orange for the biggest party in town– it’s King’s Day! Prepare for dancing, drinking, and an epic canal parade.

Travel Deeper

Home to one of the busiest airports in Europe, Amsterdam is the perfect destination for a long layover or a week-long trip. Look beyond the Red Light District and the coffee shops to see the real Amsterdam. Try a stroopwafel at the Albert Cuyp Market, learn to bike like a local on a countryside path (watch out for lambs!), and stroll along the canal with views of Dancing Houses.

Oh, and if you want to see me walking on a canal and Amsterdam in the snow, this is the playlist for you.
