Food in Italy Will Make You Want to Hop on a Plane Right Now

Have you ever had Italian food? I’m talking about Italian food IN Italy. It’s some of the best simple food you can put in your mouth. We enjoyed so much good food in Italy that we had to share some drool-worthy photos to convince you to go. Now.

Are you ready? Here’s your last chance to grab a snack before you get really hungry!

That creamy stuff

Where to start? Well, I figure cheese is always a good place to start. The cheese in Italy is ridiculously good. Like, life experience good. During the wine and cheese tasting we had in Sorrento, we had some of the most amazing ricotta and buffalo mozzarella, with wine of course. That felt like a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and it could be! I didn’t know ricotta could taste so sweet and mild with the perfect flavor. If I wasn’t around other people, I would have licked that plate.

Once we had a taste of the buffalo mozzarella there was no way we weren’t going to have it again. It’s a specialty of the region, so luckily it’s everywhere! This toast with garlic, fresh tomatoes, basil, and buffalo mozzarella (aka bruschetta) is the perfect combination of flavors to give a taste of Italy and this area specifically. Drooling yet? I am!

Meat dishes

You saw the buffalo mozzarella above, but what about the buffalo it comes from? Well, they have that too! We LOVED Inn Bufalito because they specialize in buffalo and there are so many options on the menu. While everything sounded delicious, we ended up with a buffalo steak and buffalo ragu.

This might look like just another steak, but it was mouth-watering and flavorful. I think the best way I can describe it is just really beefy. So, if you love beef, especially steak, this is the thing to order. The salad was a nice touch, but I’m a meat and potatoes girl all the way and really enjoyed this steak!

Pasta and Seafood

When you think of Italy, what do you think of? Pasta or wine, right? Well, we loved both, but this is about food…so onto the pasta pictures!

This first photo is at a really small restaurant on a side street in Sorrento that we casually walked by and then popped into. We first noticed the typical Italian charm you’d expect, and then the lovely smells from the kitchen. I really wanted a seafood pasta, I’m on the coast of Italy and just need that taste of the sea. It was a delicious first taste of Italian seafood and the most perfectly cooked pasta.

The thing about eating in Italy is that once you have a taste, it’s all you want! To be fair though, regarding this dish below, I think you’d want it even if you knew nothing about the amazingness of the regional food. This wasn’t just about seafood. In this photo, I’m sitting across from my husband while facing the sea, with local wine, and this on the table. In that moment, everything was simply perfect. It’s about simple pleasures: being with the person you love, in a beautiful location, eating and drinking wonderful things. This version of seafood pasta was the best meal I had in Italy and it was at Chez Black.

This seafood salad was all Sean’s. And yes, it was devoured as well. It’s full of mussels, octopus, squid and clams while topped with olive oil and some herbs. Again, simplicity is key here. Somehow they seem to make a pile of various foods look beautiful and ready to be eaten.

I recommend getting the seafood pasta because I love seafood, but really, whatever you order will likely be amazing. There were more smiles on my face per meal in Italy than ever before. That’s pretty cool! Can’t wait to go back for the food, wine, and the views!

  1. I am such a cheese fan. I am going to be thinking about the buffalo mozzarella all day now. Sounds like you guys had a great time, I hope to visit Italy someday.
