Stockholm Foodie Guide: 25 Best Restaurants, Cafés & Bars

Stockholm is a city that completely surprised me with its incredible food scene. I expected some great Swedish classics, but I didn’t expect to find some of the best sushi, dumplings, burgers, and cocktails I’ve ever had! I quickly realized that eating my way through the city was half the adventure.

If you’re planning a trip to Stockholm and wondering where to eat, I’ve done all the research (and taste-testing) for you. From Michelin-starred fine dining to casual eats and cozy cafés, this guide is packed with my personal recommendations—aka, the places I would 100% go back to.

Let’s dig in!

Best Restaurants in Stockholm

Stockholm is packed with amazing food, from unique fine dining experiences to cozy neighborhood gems. Here are the places I personally loved and highly recommend.

Michelin-Starred & Fine Dining in Stockholm

Ekstedt (Michelin Star)– This place almost left me speechless. The entire menu is cooked over a wood fire, and you actually get a behind-the-scenes look in the kitchen before dinner starts. It’s a full experience and SO worth it. If you enjoy wine, definitely get the wine pairing. If you don’t, the non-alcoholic pairing was also amazing.

Restaurang Hantverket – I found this gem on my second to last day, and I almost cried thinking about all the meals I could have had there. Every dish made me say, “That’s perfect.” They focus on seasonal products, but if you can get the potato dumplings and the herring snack, DO IT. The risotto and the beer tartar were also amazing. 10/10

Restaurant Operakällaren – A historic fine dining restaurant with an elegant, old-world charm. If you want a meal that feels luxurious and special, this is it.

Portal – One of the best meals of my trip. If you go, make sure to confirm your reservation when they send the follow-up email!

Best Swedish Restaurants in Stockholm

If you want to eat like a local, start here.

Meatballs for the People – A super popular spot (go early!), but THE place for Swedish meatballs. The sampler plate lets you try different kinds—highly recommended!

Restaurant Pelikan – Classic Swedish food in a beautiful historic space. The meatballs were solid, but the service was just okay. Still worth it for the atmosphere!

Lisa Elmqvist (Inside Östermalms Saluhall) – This family-run seafood restaurant has been around for four generations. If you love seafood, the Toast Skagen (shrimp salad on toast) & Gravad Lax (cured salmon) are MUSTS.

Östermalms Saluhall – This famous food market is worth visiting, even if just to wander around and admire all the fresh produce, seafood, and cheeses.

Casual Eats & Affordable Restaurants in Stockholm

For when you want something easy but still amazing.

BOO Burgers & Barbecue City – We went here way too many times (seriously). Burgers = great. BBQ sliders = amazing. Milkshakes = dangerous.

Yo! Sushi Ramen – Surprisingly good ramen at a fair price. Solid dumplings too!

BOX & BOTTLE – We went multiple times. Fresh sushi, poke bowls, and bubble tea—the salmon was always so fresh.

Best International Restaurants in Stockholm

When you want something different but delicious

Restaurant WaipoBest dumplings I had in Stockholm. Also, they have a robot that delivers food to the bar—which, honestly, is just fun!

Sushi Sho (Michelin Star) – A must if you love sushi! It’s a 90-minute Omakase meal, and you can get extra bites at the end (worth it).

Tak – A Scandinavian-Asian fusion restaurant with a rooftop view that’s hard to beat.

Machi Machi Stockholm – Super creamy, rich bubble tea—and featured on Uncle Roger!

Best Cafés & Bakeries in Stockholm for Fika

Fika = Swedish coffee + pastries, and I am here for it.

Fabrique – This was the first cinnamon bun I had in Stockholm, and I still dream about it.

ValhallabagerietEveryone says this is THE place for cinnamon buns, and they’re not wrong.

Vete-Katten – Get the Princess Cake here! It’s raspberry, sponge cake, pastry cream, whipped cream, and topped with green fondant. So fun!

Café Kladdkakan – If you like brownie batter, you will love their Kladdkaka. Get the whipped cream! That was the number one comment I got when I posted a video about it.

Krümel Cookies & Crumbs – I ran out of time and didn’t make it here—but it’s top of my list for next time!

Best Cocktail Bars & Speakeasies in Stockholm

For a fun night out!

MAP Petite Maison – Great cocktails and a massive selection of Japanese whiskey.

Röda Huset – A cool, modern vibe, but stick to the menu—their pre-mixed cocktails are the best.

Hernö Gin Bar – If you love gin, you will LOVE this place.

Pharmarium – A speakeasy in one of the most popular squares in the city!

Lucy’s Flower Shop – A hidden speakeasy—you have to open a random door to get in! And the staff was incredible.

Stockholm blew me away with its amazing food and drink scene. Stockholm is one of Europe’s best cities for foodies, and I barely scratched the surface. From Michelin-starred meals to cozy cafés and trendy bars, this city knows how to do food right. If you’re visiting in 2025, I hope this guide helps you find some incredible places to eat!
