Top airbnb experiences in Amsterdam

Whether you are visiting Amsterdam or are looking for a fun activity for date night, there are so many amazing things to do in Amsterdam that might be a little out of the box. We aren’t talking about big group tours, or big boat canal cruises, here. Let’s get a little creative, let’s learn a bit, let’s have fun and see the city in a new way through airbnb experiences in Amsterdam.

There are 113 reasons to visit Amsterdam, but if you’re like me, you might look everywhere for something different, something unique that will let you learn something about the city you live in (or are visiting) or see it from a totally different perspective. Since airbnb experiences became a thing, I’ve been keeping an eye on it to see what would pop up. What would people offer there? It’s nice to have a place where you can see so many options because there is bound to be something for everyone.

I’ve scoured through them for you and am sharing the ones that even us, as adopted locals, think would be cool to do. So here’s a list of awesome airbnb experiences to have in Amsterdam that will level-up your visit or make the perfect staycation activity!

Stroopwafel workshop

I think it’s safe to say that the best bite in Amsterdam is one of a freshly made stroopwafel. The flavors, textures, and smell are one to experience for yourself. I was thinking, “What could be better than a fresh stroopwafel?”. Well, how about MAKING ONE?! Take this workshop and learn how to make your own stroopwafel along with trying some dark beer.

Art workshop in Nieuwe Sloten

Amsterdam is many things and that’s why I get so frustrated when people only see this incredible city through one (predictable) lens. I want you to see the beauty everywhere, see the people, and see why people love living here. Participating in an art workshop in a neighborhood outside the city center fits this bill perfectly. It’s a very artistic city…time to get a feel for that!

Night photography with a pro

Sean and I believe that Amsterdam is the most beautiful at night. It’s not a city that never sleeps, in fact, it gets pretty quiet around 8pm. This doesn’t include the super touristy spots of Leidseplein and Rembrandtplein, but the canal ring quiets down significantly. It’s an incredible city to photograph at night and because a local will know the best spots and a pro can help you take the best photos, this experience had to make this list!

Indonesian cuisine cooking workshop

You may know that Indonesia used to be a Dutch colony, and many Indonesians ended up moving to the Netherlands and continued their cooking traditions. So, while I highly recommend enjoying a Rijsttafel here in Amsterdam (Mama Makan is a GREAT one!). Learn how to make your own Indonesian dishes in this cooking workshop.

Thai boat hidden gems tour

I just thought this was too fun and quirky of an airbnb experience and I had to include here. The reviews are great, and although I’ve never been to Thailand, I love the idea of bringing a little East to the West here in Amsterdam. Captained by a local, you’ll discover hidden gems from the canals. What a great way to mix it up a bit while in the Dutch capital.

Discover the Queer & Gay Heart of Amsterdam

Jessica Pride Amsterdam

The Netherlands is the first country in the world to legalize same-sex marriage and has one of the most popular Pride Parades in the world. Take the “Rainbow Stroll”, as the guide calls it, through Amsterdam where you’ll here personal stories, discover some favorite gay bars, and learn about what it means to be LGBTQ in this city.

Vacation photoshoot

This city is SO photogenic. I mean, that’s one of the top reasons people come here. It’s why movies are filmed here. And you can take a bit of that magic home when you hire a vacation photographer like the one in this experience. It’s easy to get drawn into the activities, the views, and the food and forget to get pictures of yourselves. Sean and I have had a photoshoot here in Amsterdam and it was magical. I love our photos!

Food tour

Jessica with fries

Fellow adopted locals started this food tour because they want visitors to see past the tourist spots and discover what people who live here actually eat. Join them as you see a different side of Amsterdam while snacking on the favorite foods of the locals! You probably know that I’m a BIG fan of food tours and take them in as many places as possible, so I will always recommend a tour like this.

VEGAN food tour

Vegan Junk Food Bar

I know food tours can sometimes be tough for vegans, so here is an Amsterdam food tour just those who want nothing to do with animal products. This city is super vegan-friendly and you’re bound to discover some places you’ll return to again and again.

Historical walk

This art historian is ready to teach you all about the history of this fascinating city. You’ll have two hours to walk around and learn so much about this now world-famous city that started as a fishing village while avoiding most of the touristy areas. Walking along the canals are one of my favorite things to do…just think how many people before you did the same thing and how much of an engineering feat it is that they even exist!

Countryside bike tour

ebike in Marken

I don’t normally recommend that visitors ride bikes in Amsterdam. We have rules, habits, and quirks that make it a bit intimidating, and definitely stay away from rush hour! If you do rent a bike to cycle in the center, get a very obvious tourist bike, it actually really helps in this situation. You want to stand out so locals give you more grace and more room. But, if you want to see extraordinary sights, have fun, and feel Dutch, take a countryside tour. Walk the canals on foot, and take the bike where you’ll get much more out of it!

There are a handful of experiences to help you see Amsterdam from a different perspective and get you more interactive with this beautiful city. There’s really something for everyone on airbnb experiences, so browse around and see what you can find!
