Apologies for the photo quality! Somehow all I had was my camera phone!
Do you like food? Do you like travel? Well, the World Burger Tour is a round-the-world trip for your taste buds hosted by Hard Rock Cafe! I was so happy to get invited to try the World Burger Tour at the Amsterdam location. While I was secretly hoping to be able to try all 20 (just I bite, I swear!), that’s a little too much work for a restaurant that is still open during the tasting. So our group was given four different speciality burgers that represented very different areas of the world.
But first they opened our tasting with a special house cocktail that they haven’t even named yet! Or they may have been keeping it a secret for us. Either way, it was quite tasty! I would love another…any time, any day.
Back to the burger, that’s the point here, right?! Most people aren’t going to eat four full-sized burgers, so we were given sliders. Good call! The chef introduced us to each burger and told us a little bit about the idea behind the World Burger Tour.
The first one was the Date Burger from Dubai. It had a very smooth flavor that surprised me for a burger. Dates on a burger? Yep. Good flavor, but as an American, I have certain traits I expect from a burger. I’m sure some would love this one, but it wasn’t for me. The flavors are just not something I am used to, so my palate wasn’t sure what to think.
Then came the Cuban Burger from Miami. I did not try this one, but I really dislike mustard, so it’s probably for the best. But if you do like mustard, I’m thinking the pulled pork, cheese, and burger combo with the fixings would meld together quite well.
The Marimba Burger from Guatemala was next and tasted like you might think a nacho chip burger would taste…quite good! With bean spread, cheese, salsa and tortilla straws on it, there were more familiar flavors for my American taste buds. Perhaps I just haven’t eaten around the world enough, but it tasted like something I would expect from Mexico. But hey, I’d love to go to Guatemala to find out what I’m missing!
Finally was the Bahn Mi Burger out of Vietnam. This is where some crazy burger combos can really happen. What would you think about Vietnamese flavors on a burger? I was skeptical, but I find that that’s when you are usually pleasantly surprised. The glaze, veggies, and cilantro was a great addition to a beef patty. In fact, I could go for another!
For all the ingredients of each burger, see below.
Unfortunately, the tour just ended, but you can still get the local burger at the participating Hard Rock Café locations! Let them know on social media if you think this is a great idea! Use #WorldBurgerTour on Twitter to give feedback and check out their website to see all the unique combinations. I guarantee you would have never thought of some of them!
Thank you to the Hard Rock Café in Amsterdam for hosting this event! It’s a great facility with friendly staff and we look forward to returning!
